In Taipei

January 22, 2009

After a pretty great flight on EVA Air (recommended), I’ve arrived in Taipei, where it is cold and cloudy.  So far it reminds me of any big american city except without the white people and everything is in Chinese. Tomorrow, I begin my job search. Today, I got a cellphone and did work.

A few observations on the first day:

There are starbucks or coffee shops EVERYWHERE.

The main tourist office is impossible to find. After one hour, two maps, and asking two hotels, I’m determined it does not exist in the train station! lol

There’s few westerners here.

I miss the sun.

I’ll update more later once I have something to write about about Taipei.

New Year’s Resolution

January 12, 2009

Happy 2009! I know I haven’t updated in weeks but I have good reasons:  1. I went on vacation. 2. Thailand blocked wordpress for awhile.   Now everything is back to normal.

Now that it is 2009, I was thinking about what my 2009 goals were and what I want to accomplish this year.  This is what I came up with:

1. Earn US$2,000 per month from my websites by July.

2. Create a website for movies, teaching english, and create a joint site with my friend Christine.

3. Focus more. I multitask too much and it makes me unproductive. That needs to change.

4. Spend less time on the computer. I spend all day and night on the computer (see above) and I want to break away from the work here.

5. Get a virtual assistant that is competant so I can do that and he/she can do all the grunt work.

6. Read more.

7. Walk Hard like Dewey Cox

8. Learn German

9. Learn French

10. Create a video blog for when I travel overseas again in August.

If I can stay focus and develop better time management, all these goals are possible and achievable. Now, I just have to develop that time management thingy….there is always a rub…

What are your goals for 2009?

Sorry, Happy Holidays

I am an awful blogger. My mom yelled at me for not updating so here is my life update quickly.  I’ve been super busy researching boring search engine software to make my time be used quicker. After spending 4 days trying out software, I finally realized a few things:

1. Most of this software is crap.

2. Most are way overpriced.

3. There’s no 100% way to tell if they are working

4. The best ones are 100% automated.

So after buying trial versions of 5 peices of software, I settled on this:  1 link finding software (SEO elite), one article creation software (jet spinner), 1 blog submitter (Article Marketing Automation- still in a trail phase, not sure if i will keep it), and 1 semi automatic directory submitter (digixmas).  Total cost: $167 dollars plus $50 per month.

With this I should be able to a) save a lot of time by automating a lot of work  and b) gain lots of links so my websites rank high and google and therefore gain money

so now that that boring work is done, i can actually do real work.

Tomorrow (Xmas), I am going to the beach for 8 days. I am cutting the internet cord and not updating my websites or doing anything more than checking e-mail while I sit on the beach, get a great tan, and party the night away with my friends. It will be a good, relaxing break.  I wish I could go longer but I can’t afford it.

I lost my job. The one teaching job I had kept to bring in some money while i got my websites working is gone due to the poor economic conditions. They shut their bangkok office down.

So, I have an interview when I return from my holiday but chances are I will move to Taipei when my visa is up on the 24th of Jan.  I need to start saving serious money so I can go travel again next year and I’m not doing that now. I’m way behind where I need to be.

and my websites will take a few months to get going….

and I saw the day the earth stood still.  Keanu Reeves is awful. Not as bad as Tom Cruise in that new Nazi movie but still bad. He looked and acted like Neo in the whole thing.  pathetic.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!

A very bad blogger

October 26, 2008

I’m a bad blogger. I should update this more often and I am going to. I have big plans for this site actually. But first I need to finish the two sites I am working on. I got lazy and didn’t do anything over the past week. But one site is being beta tested now. The other will take me about three days since its a) in wordpress and b) using content I already wrote.

In other news, the great job isn’t so great. Disappointing. Got a job offer to move to China though! 12,000 RMB a month. A pretty good salary when it only costs 1,500 RMB to live.

and yes, geno, I know about CSS 🙂

Be back in a week with a better blog!

October 15, 2008

wow so i just got a third job offer. More like reaffirming one I had before but that these guys sort of flaked out on.  Well, now they have their stuff together and I am doing a trail period with them this week.  If it works out, I will be making more money than I ever thought possible. I’m talking SERIOUS money and not in baht…dollars. I won’t say how much but if this works out, I’ll be able to travel for a long, long, long time.

Also, building a website in html takes soooooooooooooo long, especially when it is over 100 pages.  So much code!!!

I need to buy more ram too- windows vista is a hog!

Until next time!

I am a slacker

October 9, 2008

There’s been so much going on in my life lately that my next website has yet to go up even though I wanted it to last week.  I am hoping to finish it this week.  hoping…..

My friends Sean and Dawn from have left Bangkok. It’s sad! they have been here over a month and were a fixture in my bangkok lifestyle. i don’t know what i will do now….i’ll have to go hang out with other people!

i’m broke though so i am holing my self up in my apartment for the next week finishing websites and doing work.

to combat my brokeness, i may skip out of bangkok after the new year and head to japan.  who knows but i want to travel next year so i need money.

other than that, life is good. i am a bit bored though.  i’ve met a cool girl here but we will see how that goes. i download a lot of tv from the states.

Tina fey does a great sara palin.

I like declarative sentences.  get used to them.  and typos. I hate spell check!

Another Manic Monday

October 6, 2008

I didn’t do any work on my new website this weekend. Instead, I went out.  typical really.   I am so far behind in getting this new website up.  I need to stop slacking. really.

I start my new job this week. It will be good to finally start making money and not making debt.

I joined twitter. You can find me there at the name “nomadicmatt.”

I joined a gym. They charged me half the price I payed last year.  I knew I got screwed last year. gaahhhhhh.

I’m really busy right now between work, designing this new website, doing this SEO stuff. I rarely have any time.  Once this other website is built and I get the 3rd one up (already have the content for it), I’ll be a free man.  It is not a lot of work I am just very unproductive with my time lol.

and raise your hand if anyone is actually reading this…
